I received a phone call on Sunday from a girlfriend who has a holiday house in Green Heads. After ringing Main Roads to see if the Indian Ocean Drive was open. The Main Roads representative said it not open but ahead of schedule and the only day our workmen don’t work is Sunday. Well on Sunday, what did my friends do? They drove home on the Indian Ocean Drive and enjoyed the spectactular ocean views of the Indian Ocean. It is important to know that if you have an accident on a closed road, you are not covered by insurance. Is the saving of 45 mins really worth the risk?
West Coast Honey cream it!
July 18th, 2010 by Rona Chiera | Click to leave a comment »I’ve just woken up to the smell of toast cooking. Well, when you smell toast you just can’t resist it. This morning I topped my toast with my newly purchased creamed honey from West Coast Honey. West Coast Honey has no preservatives added and tops my shopping list of grocery items to have. Having a senitive and allergy prone children and hubby, chosing foods closest to unprocessed is important to me. My guests at Moore River Holidays and my family choose West Coast Honey to add a sweet touch to their morning.
Caladenia Mini Golf
July 17th, 2010 by Rona Chiera | Click to leave a comment »Just came back from a meeting at the well manicured Fini Olive property which is now open for tastings.I stopped in at Caladenia Mini Golf and was warmly placed in front of their wood fired heater. Their chips are the best that I have eaten. Can you find me anyone else in the Moore River region that sells the best chips? I’ll write about their freshly prepared sausage rolls that the local farmers rave about, next time.
Indian Ocean Drive update
July 17th, 2010 by Rona Chiera | Click to leave a comment »Roadworks are happening on the Wanneroo Rd. Indian Ocean Drive from Yanchep to Seabird. Allow extra time for travelling. The workman seem to be getting the traffic through fairly quickly. The Indian Ocean Drive roadworks are expected to be completed by December 2010. These roadworks and upgrades are much needed in the Shire of Gingin for the ultimate safety of travellers and our locals.
More to see
July 9th, 2010 by Rona Chiera | Click to leave a comment »When heading up to Fini Olives, be sure to call into Caladenia Mini Golf and Le Cafe as you will pass Caladenia Mini Golf on your way there. What you see here at Caladenia Mini Golf is the story of a passionate landscape gardener Lorraine who has created her dream business. I asked her who vacuums her fairways and was surprised at knowing her husband Wayne gets up extra early every morning before heading off to work himself. That was one of the best stories of aiming for excellence for customer satisfaction that I have heard in a long time. May their premises be filled with all your fun moments in

I absolutely loved my trip to Fini Olives and my kids devoured the olive oil tasting plates and we walked away loaded with caps, tshirts and bottles of Fini Olive oil. Fini oozes the buy local story and backs this up vigoursly when you walk into their cellar. Get out there today. Open from Fridays to Tuesdays.

Gravity Discovery Centre in Gingin
June 23rd, 2010 by Rona Chiera | Click to leave a comment »THE future of the Gravity Discovery Centre remains uncertain despite a surge in visitor numbers and the recent addition of state-of-the-art education facilities.
The State Government pulled the pin on its annual $350,000 funding arrangements late last year and the coffers will run dry at the end of the month.
However, support for the popular centre continues to grow with more visitors passing through the gates than ever before.
Numbers have increased two-fold in the past two years from 8768 in 2007/08 to 19,942 visitors this financial year.
Science and Innovation Minister Bill Marmion said the centre had been given more than $1.75 million in grants since 2004.
He said future cash was reliant on the centre’s board exploring more funding options.
He has asked the science branch of the Department of Commerce to work with the centre to review their operations and funding to allow it to operate from July 1.
As centre education manager Brad Whitaker runs through details of the new dome projector in the cosmology gallery, his passion for the centre, its thousands of visitors and the many educational programs is clear.
“We feel this will become a real asset to the education programs at the centre,” he said.
“Students lie on mats on the floor, and get the whole experience of being in a planetarium with the dome roof.”
The 27-minute movie on black holes and the scientific development in this area has already proved popular with hundreds of school students this month.
The purchase and installation of projector equipment and lighting in the gallery was made possible with a Lotterywest grant of more than $400,000.

Closing a state of the art science based facility like Gravity Discovery Centre just one hour north of Perth is ridiculous. If the state is bidding for the scienced based SKA project, how long will the money last for that project.
Think long term and not just which political party said YES to the project. Start growing up WA and start showing how to be remarkable!
