Top Gear stays at Kym Illman’s Lancelin luxury in the Moore River region

LANCELIN resident Kym Illman chilled out with the stars of the BBC’s top-rating series Top Gear, Jeremy Clarkson and James May.

The Top Gear Guys stayed at Mr Illman’s luxury beach home in the Lancelin town, while working on their Down Under Live version of Top Gear. The crew chose to stay in the peaceful surrounds of the Lancelin sleepy town, rather than have to deal with the throng of fans and media that would have dogged them if they had elected to stay in Perth.The pair made the 240km round trip to do the show by helicopter, which flew from the local primary school oval to Burswood helipad.

Top Gear thoroughly enjoyed their time in Lancelin and they simply loved the isolation and scootered around the Lancelin town whilst no one really recognised them. Just an hour and a half north of Perth in a car and you are there.

What to do once you get to Lancelin: Chill out, Visit the Pinnacles, sand boarding down the dunes and enjoy all the outdoor fun there is to be had at the beach.

Lancelin Primary School enjoy Seawrack Workshop

It is excellent to see the Lancelin Primary School community investing time in learning about their immediate environment with the Seawrack Workshop. The Lancelin Primary Schools backyard playground is the the beach. Therfore it makes great sense to use their outdoor environment as a part of their education. Wouldn’t it be great if maths meant you could build a sand castle and check with a ruler measurements and angles. Bring it on and get the kids outside into the real outdoors. Desert Storm Bus accident. Lancelin Western Australia. HEROES in our community

Just got off the phone to one of the dedicated volunteer ambulance officers and talking to him gave me goosebumps. The reason why he gave me goosebumps is that he was talking to me like a true soldier. A true soldier specialises with military precision that requires different areas of knowledge and skill-sets to help those in need. He says, that there were 2 young men he was speaking with, who were the first on the scene who were so courageous and brave that they overcame their fears and smashed the windows, to free the tourists inside the bus. These two young boys, thought about the fear of an explosion due to fuel, but decided to go forward and put their own lives on the line to help others in need. We had helicopters, paramedics and police at the scene and he believes there would have been in excess of 24-30 volunteers on the ground in Lancelin setting up make set areas for medical attention. The Desert Storm Operation flowed so well, as he believes this may have been our biggest accident in the Moore River region. Not only was the dedication of being a volunteer was driving him, but one the proudest moments he said was that he was standing alongside other fellow volunteer team members of ambulance and fire brigade. Our emergency crew and volunteers came from in our shire and the surrounding shires. He said the volunteers are on call day and night upon demand. He wants to ensure that you know, that our teams of volunteers are providing this service with absolute dedication from their hearts, in an unpaid capacity and they are on call 24/7. Being a volunteer is so good for his soul we wishes he could walk alongside more of you in the community.
Dear our Singapore visitors, I just wanted to share with you a little insight into the locals we have in our community who will do anything to help others in need. The Moore River region is just one hour north of Perth and you feel like you are in the country, as our community is filled with heroes with big hearts and warm smiles. We do hope this will not hinder you to enjoy Western Australia.

Dear Gingin Shire, I support a grant for Small Business Centre in Lancelin.
Dear Gingin Shire & Councilors,
Over the weekend 24th July 2011, I read an article in the “Sun City News” that our Small Business Centre in Lancelin may not see any funding from the Gingin Shire.
I may be only one person putting forward a comment in favour of the Small Business Centre receiving a grant, but I know, feel and see the difference this centre has made for many of us in the Gingin Shire.
Tourism is a strange piece to accurately measure: Our foods and wines coupled with accommodation, provide employment and a place to go for our locals. Tourism pulls together business, opportunities for farmers, butchers, chemists, local tradesman, our housewives, seniors and the children of our community. I would like to see my Gingin Shire treat the grant they give to the Small Business Centre as a bank where their money will earn interest in the people of the Gingin Shire.
Overtime, I know with the knowledge of the SBC, I can build a valuable asset for our visitors and community to use, further their education, stay and engage in the growth of our shire.
The SBC runs a marathon that has an unstoppable strategy for the long run. I trust the information and community building initiatives that come from the Small Business Development for the future employment and farming of our communities.

What I know about Glenn’s business, Desert Storm, is that it was a dream built from his passion for motorsports. His championship ways in the sport have filtered into the way he operates this business, Desert Storm. He is dedicated to the Desert Storm bus and since 1998, This is Desert Storms first accident in this bus. The tragedy that unfolded yesterday, I witnessed a small town of great people work hard and fast to comfort our injured visitors. I heard the voice of a long time ambulance volunteer, Dave Stroud, in the background, and I knew in my heart that if I was involved in an accident, there was no better place and hands to be in. Thanks Desert Storm for giving our tourists a great regional experience. An unfortunate accident, never seen one happen with Desert Storm bus before. If time is on your side with traveling to the north of Western Australia to see our abundance of natural beauty, be sure to use the Indian Ocean Drive to head north, this will ensure it takes time off your travel. Heading back from your self drive north, be sure to travel along our great wildflower Hwy route, the Brand Hwy. The Moore River region, boasts the best of both worlds. The coast and the country, from Guilderton to Gingin and Lancelin. Let’s see more of you.

Love the Sculpture by the sea art at Cottesloe beach that has warning signs all over it saying “we do not trust you to use your commonsense”. Lancelin is home of the Lancelin Ocean Classic and if kite and windsurfing is your sport, well come on down. With the Moore River region only being one hour north of Perth, you’re welcome to enjoy our Indian Ocean coastline, like you did 30 years ago. That’s the beauty of the Moore River region, we are filled with family and real fun moments…. Love the memories that our visitors remind us about. I am more in love with the Moore River region everyday.
