Communities along Western Australia’s coastline welcome the opening of a new road linking coastal towns with Perth.
The final stretch of Indian Ocean Drive is now open to traffic, allowing motorists an uninterrupted sealed coastal route from Perth to Dongara.
The Indian Ocean Drive will enhance future developments towns along the coast. Indian Ocean Drive itself is now open. This last stage represents really the first time that the Indian Ocean Drive has been able to reach its full potential as a through route from Perth, so I think from this point forward it will be a significant driver for the growth of our coastal areas. from Guilderton, Lancelin, Cervantes to Dongara

Police are warning motorists on the new Indian Ocean Drive to be extra cautious of wildlife straying onto the road. The newly opened Indian Ocean Drive is all new virgin land that is now an open public road, just past Lancelin. The Indian Ocean Drive now takes you to Cervantes. Police have urged motorists on the new Indian Ocean Drive to be extra cautious of wildlife straying onto the road.
Drivers please be aware of wildlife even when travelling at the correct speeds. The Indian Ocean Drive starts at Guilderton Rd, Guilderton, in the Moore River region.

I am a volunteer member of our local tourism group and we are looking for additional locally grown legends.
We are creating a community inspired online tourism website for locals and visitors to enjoy the Moore River region, more often.
We believe that by enhancing community partnerships, we can create creative solutions and more positive changes than you ever thought possible. Our locals and neighbouring shire communities are the stars of our community and we want you to participate in our tourism brand. We want to know, the good, the bad and the ugly about our region and you can help us by becoming an online community tourism member.
If you are an artist, singer, chef, farmer, grower, consumer, shopkeeper, volunteer, a retiree, parent etc, if you live in Lancelin, Lennard Brook, Mogumber Neergabby, Chittering, Dandaragan or Carabooda wherever you are, you may find it hard to attend our meetings so your online contribution is welcomed.
Together with our Mediterranean climate, the one hour distance from Perth and our regional produce being a household name, we want you to help us sell the history and the picturesque parts of the region with your photos and tales. It is with your photographs and fascinating stories that will provide compelling reasons for visitors visit to the Moore River region.
We have just learned of a retired, motivated resident, Michael Mullany, who wants to help bring the Moore River region brand to life and with community help as you know, tourism provides lots of local jobs.
Interested? Register, enjoy dinner with us and become an active member of your local tourism group today.

After many years of planning and more than two years of construction, the Lancelin-Cervantes Stage 2 Project Team is proud to announce that the much anticipated Lancelin to Cervantes section of Indian Ocean Drive will be officially opened on Sunday 19 September in the Moore River region and will be open to traffic from 3.00 pm on that day.
With the assistance of favourable winter weather, construction has been able to continue at an accelerated pace and as a result, the road will be completed approximately nine months ahead of schedule.
The final product is a testament to all who have been involved and there is no doubt that the road will be very much appreciated by local communities and tourists.
It is important to note however, that the road will remain closed to general traffic whilst minor works continue to operate up to the official opening date.
We would like to thank the general public for their support and patience during the road construction and we request your continued cooperation in using current/existing routes until after 3.00 pm Sunday 19 September 2010.
Please note that work on upgrading the old Pinnacles Drive (south of Cervantes) will continue until the end of October 2010. Motorists in the area should exercise care whilst works are in progress. Happy travelling!
