The Self Drive capital of Western Australia starts on Indian Ocean Drive. The Indian Ocean Drive will show you the coastal essence of Western Australia – the narrow beachy, sun-bleached strip of the Turquoise Coast and the Coral Coast. Starts in the heart of the Moore River region, just one hour north of Perth, Gingin.

This takes us from Cervantes to Jurien Bay up to Ningaloo, the world’s biggest fringing reef.

But, early on in the trip north, there is the Pinnacles at Nambung National Park – thousands of limestone pillars rising out of the yellow sand. Some pinnacles rise up to 3.5m. Some are like tombstones. Composed of seashells in an earlier epoch rich in marine life, they may have taken thousands of years to form but were exposed only a few hundred years ago.

What eat your way around the Moore River region means is that I was at Caladenia Mini Golf on the weekend and I came across a jar of local produce called ” Ellie’s Organic Beetroot Chutney”. I’ve listened to Lorraine rave about her beetroot chutney she uses, well now Ellie has started to package her famous beetroot chutney. Does Ellie really know how famous her beetroot chutney is? It is to die for and at $6.90 a jar. We’ll be back for more of this great local Gingin produce! Gotta love Ellie! What is great about the owners of businesses in the Moore River region, Gingin, is that they source locally and this creates a new cottage industry for our people living in the Gingin Shire. Well done. Thumbs UP!

The Moore River Olive Association has been going for over 10 years and it was sad to see this association fold at their last AGM in August 2010. The Moore River Olive Association invested their time and energy into building our region into the Moore River Olive region that you see up here today. I personally believe the marketing, romance and the health of the olives truly sparked some great investments and meeting of some fabulous people in our area. The Moore River region is so under valued in terms of what we have to offer in the region naturally. Visit, relax and enjoy more of who YOU are today in the Shire of Gingin.

Guilderton is Oarsome

Our winter wonderland in the Moore River region is coming to a close. Winter is one of my favourite times. We visit all things to do, as the allergy season is at it’s lowest for us. From Guilderton to Gingin, there is simply more to do than you realise. Kayaking along the Moore River is oarsome. With only one hour from Perth, the Moore River region is addictive, naturally.

Guilderton Community Fair is an annual event held on the banks of the Moore River, where the river meets the Indian Ocean. Just one hour north of Perth, in the Moore River region, Gingin. The locals absolutely love these events and the Guilderton foreshore is a day trippers delight. If it is your first time to the Guilderton or the Moore River region take a cruise along the Moore River with Phil at Moore River Tours or wander inland to Caladenia Mini Golf or the West Coast Honey farm.
