West Coast Honey cream it!

July 18th, 2010 by Rona Chiera

I’ve just woken up to the smell of toast cooking. Well, when you smell toast you just can’t resist it. This morning I topped my toast with my newly purchased creamed honey from West Coast Honey. West Coast Honey has no preservatives added and tops my shopping list of grocery items to have. Having a senitive and allergy prone children and hubby, chosing foods closest to unprocessed is important to me. My guests at Moore River Holidays and my family choose West Coast Honey to add a sweet touch to their morning.

Caladenia Mini Golf

July 17th, 2010 by Rona Chiera

Just came back from a meeting at the well manicured Fini Olive property which is now open for tastings.I stopped in at Caladenia Mini Golf and was warmly placed in front of their wood fired heater. Their chips are the best that I have eaten. Can you find me anyone else in the Moore River region that sells the best chips? I’ll write about their freshly prepared sausage rolls that the local farmers rave about, next time.

Indian Ocean Drive update

July 17th, 2010 by Rona Chiera

Roadworks are happening on the Wanneroo Rd. Indian Ocean Drive from Yanchep to Seabird. Allow extra time for travelling. The workman seem to be getting the traffic through fairly quickly. The Indian Ocean Drive roadworks are expected to be completed by December 2010. These roadworks and upgrades are much needed in the Shire of Gingin for the ultimate safety of travellers and our locals.

Fini Olives now OPEN

July 9th, 2010 by Rona Chiera

Moore River Holidays partners with other businesses in the Moore River region so we can keep our visitors and guests updated to the best activities to see. Got a call that Fini Olives is now open. My first contact with Fini Olives was with Rayana. Her enthusiam was A1 and what I love to hear is ” how did you hear about us”. One of the most important questions they could ask. An advert in the Sun City News. I absolutely loved my trip to Fini Olives and my kids devoured the olive oil tasting plates and we walked away loaded with caps, tshirts and bottles of Fini Olive oil. Fini oozes the buy local story and backs this up vigoursly when you walk into their cellar. Get out there today. Open from Fridays to Tuesdays.

Moore River is a river in the Wheatbelt of Western Australia.
The headwaters of the river near Walebing and flow westerly before joining with the Moore river East near Mogumber then flow in a westererly direction. The river flows over the Edengerie Cascade through the northern edge of Moore River Nature Reserve then through the escarpment and discharge into the Indian Ocean near Guilderton.
The river includes a catchment that extends from just south of Three Springs to Guilderton. The catchment has a total area of 13,540 square kilometres (5,228 sq mi) and is mostly cleared. The catchment area is used for broadacre farming but with increasing deversification in horticulture and tree plantations. The river mouth at Guilderton typically closes during the summer months due to insufficient water, creating a sandbar.
The river was named in 1836 by Private Patrick Heffron who named it after George Fletcher Moore who was the leader of the expedition that Heffron was a part of.[4]
The river has nine subcatchment areas and has a number of tributaries and lakes along the length of the river. The salinity levels in the river catchment vary from brackish to saline with the exception of Gingin Brook which remains fresh throughout the year.[5]

I want Moore. I want more.

May 17th, 2010 by Rona Chiera

I’m in the library with my children and I am feeling like I am wanting more. I want Moore. I want more of everything. I want my children not to be pain anymore. I want to see more volunteers in our community and I want to see more young up and coming volunteers. I want to add one more green initiative into my home. I want more time to visit friends. I want more customer focused businesses. I want to sit under a tree with the sun beaming on me and read a little more. I want to travel light and see more of Western Australia. I want to be able to walk all the trails in Moore River. I want more, more often. What more do you want from your life each day? Is wanting more O.K.?

Game on with or without Balderdash

May 16th, 2010 by Rona Chiera

Where ever we go we take a pack of cards and the Balderdash game. Balderdash is our families’ favourite game. Well this time we forgot to bring it along so my daughter taught me how to play it from her Apple Mac. We looked up the dictionary and proceeded to laugh our heads off silly by creating our own meanings for words we found on the dictionary. A weekend away at Moore River Holidays is what you want to make of it. Bringing out the cards and the board games keeps the T.V. off but as yet we haven’t totally excluded the electronics.
