What’s with the name? Moore River region

What’s with the name? The Gingin Coast Tourism Association are embracing our region as the Moore River region instead of Gingin Coast to Country. Why? Some ask-I cannot see the Moore River region on any map? The Moore River is not a suburb name. The Moore River flows through many neighbouring shires. The locals know where the Moore River region is but may not know where Muckenburra is, which is actually a suburb within the Moore River region. Muckenburra is one of the most perfect spots to select accommodation when choosing to do stargazing at the Gingin Observatory and visiting Gingin Gravity Discovery Centre. Neergabby is home of a group of amazing volunteers who offer visitors and locals awesome events. Neergabby’s accommodation hosts are right next door to the Gingin Observatory and the GDC. What about Regans Ford? Locals have never heard of some of our suburbs, including Gabbadah so we are uniting our region and bringing together our great suburbs under one recognisable brand. The “Moore River region” brand.
Just like the Margaret River brand, together with united locals, businesses and growers they have created a memorable brand that is now internationally recognised and some of their unknown towns have become overwhelmingly recognisable. How about Cowaramup? Home of the Candy Cow. Come join our GGTA tourism group for some local FREE REANGE thinking. The story with Muckenburra is that I came across Muckenburra on my GPS and I ignored where the GPS told me to go and when I got to one of my tourism meetings I told them my GPS said go to Muckenburra and I thought my GPS was mucking me about. Now if I don’t know where Muckenburra is so neither do our visitors and other locals.

The Ripple Effect

I am a volunteer member of our local tourism group and we are looking for additional locally grown legends.
We are creating a community inspired online tourism website for locals and visitors to enjoy the Moore River region, more often.
We believe that by enhancing community partnerships, we can create creative solutions and more positive changes than you ever thought possible. Our locals and neighbouring shire communities are the stars of our community and we want you to participate in our tourism brand. We want to know, the good, the bad and the ugly about our region and you can help us by becoming an online community tourism member.
If you are an artist, singer, chef, farmer, grower, consumer, shopkeeper, volunteer, a retiree, parent etc, if you live in Lancelin, Lennard Brook, Mogumber Neergabby, Chittering, Dandaragan or Carabooda wherever you are, you may find it hard to attend our meetings so your online contribution is welcomed.
Together with our Mediterranean climate, the one hour distance from Perth and our regional produce being a household name, we want you to help us sell the history and the picturesque parts of the region with your photos and tales. It is with your photographs and fascinating stories that will provide compelling reasons for visitors visit to the Moore River region.
We have just learned of a retired, motivated resident, Michael Mullany, who wants to help bring the Moore River region brand to life and with community help as you know, tourism provides lots of local jobs.
Interested? Register, enjoy dinner with us and become an active member of your local tourism group today.

All community members welcome.
