N.U.T. No Uniform Today Allergy Aware Schools. Free Dress Day

Living with a child with multiple allergies is challenging. The stories you hear from other parents can make you fearful. Isabella has now outgrown her peanut allergy although she still has other multiple allergies of which, we self manage. Now that our family has experienced both sides of the allergy world though my identical looking twins, I dedicate myself to bridging the gap between our nut consumers and the allergy world. I have a greater understanding that businesses, government and communities need to work together to solve this allergy epidemic. I am experienced and confident that together we can make a world of difference in our communities.
In sharing my story with others, my twin’s rheumatology specialist at Princess Margaret Hospital, told me that he did not recognise his own daughter’s allergic reaction that she was experiencing whilst he was with her. Luckily a visitor in his home recognised the symptoms and alerted him, that he believes his daughter was having an allergic reaction to nuts. Allergy symptoms presents itself in many various forms, and you may not have an allergy now, but if Australia has reached epidemic levels with food allergies, chances are you know someone who suffers from an allergy. It may even be you!
Together we need to fund awareness and research projects, and help manage this allergy epidemic at a community level. I would dearly love to see antihistamine in all first aid kits and if we continue to manage allergy awareness at a community level, we can reduce the time spent in an emergency hospital waiting room and reduce the impact on our health system.

N.U.T. No Uniform Today. FREE Dress Day for your allergy aware school, gets a WIGGLE.

NUT allergies are indiscriminate and deadly. Miki and Anthony Field better known as the internationally acclaimed BLUE WIGGLE of the popular children’s stage show called The Wiggles, has experienced a brush with death, an anaphylactic reaction to peanut butter with their son, Antonio, 3. Little Antonio had previously eaten peanut butter.
I can just imagine what the Miki and Anthony are going through and I would not be surprised if Miki is researching online for answers to allergy awareness in our community. I made my obsession to keep Isabella safe, into a positive community awareness initiative. I wanted to learn more about the nut allergy and what I could I do to help others. Having a naturally Positive Peanut Personality, I was looking at ways of protecting my little Isabella whilst at school without seeming a paranoid parent. Knowing that we appeared to be a minority group in the community with less than 2% of the population with nut allergies back in 2005, my thinking had to be outside the shell.
Isabella is an identical twin and having a nut allergy, I realised that I had to keep my strategies simple therefore I used the KISS principle, Keep It Simple Stupid. Australia now has up to 6% of children with food allergies before they reach school age, this translates to 65,000 little kids” says Dr Mullins President of the Australian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy.
We found chocolates and desserts to be the hardest foods to give Isabella; therefore we never gave Isabella any chocolates, which made any claim “may contain traces of nuts”.
Our family became even more loyal to the big brands and I do understand why they must add claims “may contain traces of nuts”. However I am enjoying watching my favourite household brands, start to include additional allergy aware wording on their packaging. Well done, you are making a difference in our lives. Big brands are being responsible in helping us manage allergy awareness in the community.
My twin girls already endure a debilitating disability called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and I refused to allow the “may contain traces of nuts” allergy epidemic to rule my life, therefore my creative mind started spitting out terminator tactics to help save my child and others in the community just like Isabella.
The Principal at my children’s primary school, Mr. Rick Firns, was very responsive to my fears. Mr. Rick Firns allowed me to use my creative nut together with his team of teachers and the community and we rallied around to promote allergy awareness week each year, raising funds for Anaphylaxis Australia. The children got to wear FREE Dress for the day and we promoted this event as N.U.T. FREE Dress Day. The N.U.T. initials represent the words, No Uniform Today. N.U.T. FREE is simple in its message and common wording used in our community. Mr. Firns created a pro active school approach to allergy awareness and I am forever thankful to Mr. Firns for taking a monumental approach to allergy awareness in our school and wider community. My primary school and community became my testing platform for giving simple quirky messages about allergies and I soon realised that I was on a winner and that adding humour in messages about allergies helped the general community become allergy aware without them realising they were actually helping us manage this epidemic. My messages became contagious; therefore I was creating allergy aware environments for Isabella and her mates to enjoy. Managing this epidemic through allergy awareness initiatives is the key. I do not endorse NUT FREE zones as these give a false sense of security. Let’s learn to get a grip on these nut allergies and help us by wearing No Uniform Today!
Never seeing an end to the peanut allergy challenges we were facing, Isabella and I made a pinky promise, that if she grew out of her nut allergy, I would buy her a chocolate shop and you can have all the chocolates you ever wanted! Later in 2008, Isabella took the Kraft Peanut Butter challenge at Princess Margaret Hospital with Dr. Richard Loh and she passed the peanut butter challenge. Be careful what you promise!
Today our home is filled with all the peanuts, nuts and 4 different varieties of Kellogg’s Crunchy Nut cereals, Nutella, Kraft peanut butters and chocolate spreads What a great obsession!

Nuts about chocolate at Moore River Holidays. Rona Chiera

An update on the progress on our Moore River Chocolate Cafe. We have just dug out the 11 metre wide driveway that is required by the Gingin Shire. Moore River Holidays is located on a 40 acre property, directly on the Moore River, therefore an 11 metre driveway is required by the Gingin Shire, which is wider than the average road, because they are obviously thinking about the growth in our area, and giving us an 11 metre driveway allows for the tourist buses that head passed our road and go straight to the Pinnacles may want to stop and enjoy our great location and product. These buses are filled with mostly overseas tourists and this accounts for over 300,000 visitors annually, passing our front door. With the opening of the Indian Ocean Drive, this self Drive market is set to explode.
Whilst we have the tractor on the premises, we are planning to add a beach volleyball court for our guests to use at Moore River Holidays, accommodation. We have noticed a change in our groups that choose to stay at Moore River Holidays. We are group accommodation specialists, we accommodate the Navy with recreational activities, sporting groups, friends and family groups. If we can accommodate your total holiday experience from one property, well, then that’s a great holiday. We’ll keep you updated when the beach volleyball court is ready for use.

Rona Chiera is nuts about tourism

Gingin is the heart of the Moore River region and has really earned its heart medal with a community like ours. I was heading into our Gingin Tourism AGM meeting last night a little squashed and stiffled. I see the potential of tourism just one hour north of Perth. I know we are known as virgin territory, but I see that busy people no longer have the time or funds to travel to the Margaret River region three hours south of Perth, Western Australia.I will never give in on something that I can see the potential for and this includes my passion for tourism and my people. Last night I was one of the last men standing to remain on the tourism committee along with Mike from Brookside Accommodation. Our two other committee members were our government Gingin Councillor and Norm Skoglund our Small Business Development Centre Government representative. Going into the AGM I was overwhelmed with the back up support waiting there to take on positions as committee members to get our tourism group the kick start it needs. We need vision beyond our borders for tourism, agriculture, community and business. I have the strength, courage, drive and commitment to deliver based on any hurdle that is put in front of me. I enjoy networking with our entire community groups and the strength in numbers for our 2011/2012 Gingin Tourism committee is overwhelmingly awesome. They believed in me to make the right choices for the greater community and I will always uphold in that honesty and belief.
I am very thankful in the work that our teams of volunteers have created over the years to get us where we are today. I am nuts about my community and tourism.

I love you Moore, Virgin Territory according to SCOOP magazine.

Necker Isand experienced tropical storms with winds up to 90mph and a powerful large lightning storm came around 4am and hit the house. Richard’s son Sam and nephew Jack rushed to the house and helped get everyone out and many thanks to Kate Winslet for helping to carry Richard’s 90 year mum out of the main house to safety. Kate Winslet was wondering when a Director was going to shout CUT! Isn’t it amazing, that no matter how BIG the tragedy, you can always see the humourous side of life. Moore River Holidays would like to extend our holiday home to you all. According to our local SCOOP Magazine who I believe is the greatest travel & tourism magazine that Perth, Western Australia has to offer, Moore River Holidays is located on the cusp of Virgin territory. If we are going to claim our area as Virgin territory according to page 90 and 91 of the SCOOP Magazine July to December 2011 Issue, I want to see it branded with the real Virgin brand with Richard Branson heading our way and claiming this territory as his Virgin territory.
Just over one hour north of Perth and we are claiming this as Virgin territory?
Got some ideas on how to do this?

Shlumpadinka Sleepover Spring Party- Oprah Winfrey word

Shlumpadinka
The word Oprah Winfrey made up a long time ago to describe slumpy housewives, the types that are wearing the same sweats they wore yesterday and the day before. They usually have more than one child and are running around nonstop and have been totally worn out and given up on how they look.

Spring is officially world Shlumpadinka season for 2011 and the Shlumpadinka Sleepover Party begins here in Western Australia. A world first Shlumpadinka Sleepover Party. This year, 2011, our Moore River Holiday home is available for the first, Sisterhood of the Shlumpadinka’s Sleepover Party. We will measure the success of the Shlumpadinka Sleepover Spring Party from our individual bookings this year, and then open the Shlumpadinka Sleepover Party to greater groups of women next year. My thoughts are creating a full Shlumpadinka season, being winter, as we can get out our UGG boots and really complete the Shlumpadinka look. Australia’s winter is from June till August, but in other parts of the world winter is designated at different times of the year. As we are on 40 acres on the Moore River, just one hour north of Perth, this would make an easy getaway for us busy Shlumpadinka housewives, as the rural setting means you don’t have to bring out your besties, just invite your besties along. I personally need my Shlumpadinka moments just to chill out and I am a proud Shlumpadinka and high roller housewife. A high roller housewife loves to curl with the girls, so bring your hair rollers too. Moore River Holidays is located directly off Indian Oprah Drive, oops, Indian Ocean Drive. i love you Oprah!
Shlumpadinka Sleepover Party: Stay Frumpy Friday till Shlumpadinka Sunday
Shlumpadinka face: little or no make up
Shlumpadinka dress code: PJ’s and tracksuits
Shlumpadinka syndrome: Laugh, Love & Lounge a little. Share stories with girlfriends
Shlumpadinka dance moves: Shlumpadinka Sexy
Shlumpadinka breakfast: Opraisin Toast, tea & coffee
Shlumpadinka lunch: Panini press sandwiches
This Shlumpadinka Sleepover Party blog wording may change, as I am wanting to be respectful on words written, just in case I am infringing on Oprah’s or anyone’s trademarks
Thanks my Shlumpadinkas and High Roller Housewives
